Sažetak
In the last few decades there has been a global expansion of trade and capital flows, especially foreign direct investment flows (FDI ) that have played a key role in the rapid economic growth and structural transformation in developing countries. The global crisis has severely dented the surge of private capital flows to developing economies, including FDI. Yet, given its long-term nature, FDI has been more resilient than other forms of private capital inflows, and is expected to remain the main source of private capital to developing countries. This paper analyses various crisis transmission channels. Furthermore, global and regional FDI trends, as well as FDI trends in Croatia, before and during the crisis will be analyzed. Finally, conclusions and recommendations about the necessary policy reforms that would ensure continuous inflow of FDI much needed to overcome the crisis, especially in developing countries, will be summed up.
