Sažetak
Langerhans' cells in the guinea pig skin can be demonstrated by histoenzymatic methods for both Mg++ and Ca++ activated adenosine triphosphatase (ATP-ase). The latter was used for morphometric evaluation of the number of LCs per square millimeter in the epidermis before and ater irritation with 1% aqueous phenol solution. Our experiment demonstrated for the first time a stronger activity of Ca++ activated ATP-ase in Langerhans' cells, but changes of Langerhans' cells after irritation were more pronounced in the enzyme activity pattern of ATP-ase than in the frequency of Langerhans' cells. A significant drop in the enzyme activity and loss of Langerhans' cells reached maximume at 24 hours after irritation. One month after the treatment, a linear, continual arrangement of Langerhans' cells was re-established in the epidermis.
