Sažetak
Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) were determined in surface soil samples collected in or close to the areas of four airports and selected industrial facilities: a former chloro-alkali-electrolysis plant, a former ferromanganese plant, and an aluminium producing plant. The pollutants were accumulated from air-dried soil samples by multiple sonicated extraction with n-hexane:acetone 1:1 mixture. The extracts purified by treatment with copper powder, mercury, and sulphuric acid were analysed by capillary gas chromatography. PCB were quantified against a standard mixture consisting of Aroclor 1242 and Aroclor 1260 in a 2.5:1 ratio. The mass fractions of total PCBs in 18 soil samples collected inside the aeroport areas ranged from 3 to 41327 ľg/kg (median 1181 ľg/kg), and those in 11 samples collected at a distance of several metres to one kilometre outside the airport fence from <1 to 39 ľg/kg (median 10 ľg/kg). Seven industrial soil samples contained 21 to 1207 ľg/kg (median 267 ľg/kg) of total PCB. In cooperation with MWC-Michael Wilken UmweltConsulting, Berlin and MPU GmbH, Dep. Analytical Laboratory, Berlin, one highly contaminated airport soil sample and two soil samples from the area of the chloro-alkali-electrolysis plant were analysed for polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDD) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDF). In addition to PCDD/PCDF quantification the international toxic equivalent (I-TEQ) values of 9.7, 493 and 549 ng I-TEQ/kg d.m. were calculated for airport and two industrial soils, respectively.
