Sažetak
Treatment of postoperative pain in Intensive Care Unit (ICU ) is a crucial factor in attenuating endocrine and neurohumoral disorders within postoperative period that can lead to life treating complications. This period is marked by an increase in catabolisam, increased secretion of stress hormones, increased stress on the cardiovascular system, pulmonary function disorders, metabolic changes, decreased fibrinolysis, immunosupression, gastrointestinal disorders and alterations in CNS function. The intensity and persistence of these dysfunctions depend upon the intensity of surgical injury and effectiveness of treating postoperative pain. Inadequate treatment of postoperative pain causes central and peripheral sensitization and leads to development of chronic pain syndrome. Incidence of postoperative chronic pain syndrome is up to 40 % with great influence on the quality of patient’s life. The modern principle in treating postoperative pain is the use of multimodal analgesia approach which is individually with drugs and doses adjusted to patients condition which is extremely important for ICU patients.
