Sažetak
Previous studies have shown that the most significant factor causing high mortality and high morbidity in patients with chronic renal disease is atherosclerosis. Although different risk factors have a role in the development of atherosclerosis the most important factors in CFR patients on haemodialysis are oxidative stress and dyslipidaemia. The aim of the study was to measure the effects of haemodialysis treatment on the general antioxidative status of serum with special reference to specific oxidizability of lipids and proteins. Indicators for oxidative/nonoxidative status of plasma were monitored at the beginning and at the end of the haemodialysis. A decrease in antioxidant status was accompanied by increased oxidizability of lipids as well as proteins during hemodialysis. Total antioxidant status decreased from 1.69±0.23 to 1.48±0.27 mmol/L ; homocysteine from 28.1±9.6 to 20.0±11.3 μmol/L ; C-reactive protein from 17.4±26.6 to 12.2±14.8 mg/L and Uric Acid from 370.6±71.2 to 108.8±32.6 μmol/L while there was an increase in albumin concentration from 37.7±3.7 to 42.9±5.9 g/L ; autoantibodies to oxidized LDL increased from 413.1±332.2 to 530.8±371.2 mU/ml ; HDL-C from 0.86±0.25 to 1.02±0.3 mmol/L ; LDL-C from 2.57±0.81 to 2.9±0.98 mmol/L. Our data demonstrate that the sensitivity of serum lipids and proteins to oxidative modification is increased by haemodialysis treatment.
