Sažetak
Chondromyxoid fibroma (CMF)is unfrequent, slow- growing benign neoplasm, first described and recognized as a distinct clinicopathological entity by Jaffe and Lichenstein in 1948.Chondromyxoid fibroma is the rarest of the cartilaginous tumors, representing in Dahlin s series 1.8% of all benign and only 0.5%of both benign and malignant bone tumors. Approximately two thirds of the cases have occured in bones of the lower extremity, particulary the proximal metaphyseal end of tibia and femur.Approximately 2% of all reported chondromyxoid fibromas have involved mandible and skull bones. The World Health Organization defines CMF as a benign tumor, characterized by lobulated areas of spindle-shaped or stellate cells wizh abundant myxoid or chondroid intercellular material, often separated by zones of more cellular tissue rich in spindle- shaped or rounded cells of different sizes and large pleomorphic cells. The most important lesion to distinguisg from CMF is chondrosarcoma. Misdiagnosis of CMF can lead to inadequate treatment and can have direct consequences for the patients health. A careful review of radiological and histological findings may be helpful to obtain a cirrect diagnosis.
