Sažetak
In this study the changes in serum fructosamine concentration during late pregnancy and lactation in ewes were investigated. The research was conducted on ten crossbred Istrian X East Friesian dairy ewes. Blood was taken 10 days before lambing (D -10), on day 10 (D +10), day 20 (D +20), day 90 (D +90) and on day 130 after lambing (D +130). In blood serum concentrations of fructosamine, glucose, total protein and albumine were determined. The concentration of fructosamine significantly decreased on D +10, then significantly increased on D +20 (p<0, 05), staying on the same level until D +130. The fructosamine concentration curve was not parallel to glucose curve. The concentration of glucose was the highest on D -10 then gradually decreased, being significantly lower on D +130 in comparison with D -10 (p<0, 05). Concentrations of albumins and total protein were the highest on D -10, then significantly decreased on D +10, and additionally decreased on D +90 and D +130 (p<0, 05). The significant decrease in fructosamine concentration observed on D +10 probably resulted from the substantial and rapid decrease in total protein and albumine concentrations also established during the same period. The obtained results contribute to a better understanding of the applicability of the fructosamine test in ewes. The changes in protein metabolism during pregnancy and lactation should be considered during the interpretation of biochemical findings concerning fructosamine concentration.
