Sažetak
Vagueness is regarded as an important feature of human languages ; human communication would be diffecult if the precese meaning of every word were required in order to exchange a message. However, vagueness is a source of problems ; the problem of truth value of propositions with vague predicates is well known from classical times. In linguistics this corresponds to the question of how to determine the meaning of vague statements. This ERP experiment is aimed at determining the "psychological reality" of various theories related to vagueness. The first part consists of a picture-matching task, while the other of the word-matching task. The obtained wave forms in both experiments relate vagueness with processing costs (late frontal positivity around 600 ms), but also reveal an effect of facilitation of vague term in the picture matching task. The results were interpreted in terms of language-as-action theories and were found to be consistent with the prototype theory.
