Sažetak
Cabbage "Varaždinsko zelje", which is in the procedure of geographic origin protection presents the most represented domestic cabbage cultivar in the County of Varaždin. Fresh cabbage "Varaždinsko zelje" is mainly intended as the raw material for preparing quality sauerkraut. In the production of seedlings certified seed produced in Istria and Italy were used, as well as selected domestic seed produced by generations on family farms. This research was conducted with the intention of determining differences in quality and quantity of cabbage "Varaždinsko zelje" which was produced from three different seed origins. The sowing of seeds in polystyrene containers was completed in the greenhouse on 16th February 2009. Seedlings were transplanted on 22nd May on the Experimental – demonstration field in Varaždin according to the methode of randomized block pattern in four repetitions. The size of basic parcel was 40 m² with frames of 6 plants/m². After the sowing the samples of plants were taken seven times in regular intervals in order to analyse quality characteristics (total phenol content and antioxidation activity). During the vegetation morphological characteristics were monitored: number of leaves, leaf area, head forming and average head weight in tehnological maturity. One-Year resarch of quantity characteristics of cabbage "Varaždinsko zelje" showed faster sprouting of certified seed. Faster growth of seedlings at the beginning, forming, average head size and weight were established at plants produced from domestic and seed from Istria in relationship on seed from Italy.
