Sažetak
The market share of river cruise holidays is relatively symbolic within the worldwide market of international holidays, but the past and fututre booms are substantial evidence of economic strength. When talking about river cruise data it must be borne in mind that riverine cruising is a less wel-documented sector of the market than others. Source markets are not always well recorded, with the exception of Germany, the major origin market for river cruise passengers and the UK market. River cruising maintains its upward tendency with increased bookings and higher occupancy and will continue to grow in popularity and importance. Further growth is expected in the coming years particularly in the Danube/Rhine/Main area. In order to succeed, operators are seeking to become more innovative when devising different itineraries and creating new opportunities for the customers they are trying to attract and retain. It is important to point out that the European river cruise industry is undergoing a transitionary period with the introduction of new products (less well-known rivers, theme cruises) and an extension of the season (winter cruises).
