Sažetak
The extreme toxicity of mercury, in its many forms, makes an understanding of the element’s coordination chemistry of paramount importance. Mercury can adopt a large range of coordination modes (linear, trigonal planar and tetrahedral being the most common) reflecting the flexibility of the mercury coordination geometry. Characterization of mercury complexes with S-donor ligands such as nitrogen containing heterocyclic thiones (which include large range of heterocycles such as pyrimidine, imidazole, triazole, quinoline, purine thiazole etc.) enables better understanding of mercury binding in biological systems and contribute to better understanding of mercury intoxicology.
