Sažetak
A survey of honey bee colony losses was conducted among beekeepers during three beekeepers meetings. 114 beekeepers with 10.293 colonies (2008) reported the lost of 1.577 colonies (15, 32%) during winter 2008/09 period. The main reasons for losses were queens or food storage (9, 10%) and Nosema and Varroa (22, 19%). 30, 67% of polled beekeepers did not know the causes of loss and 38, 04% of them did not report any specific reason. The main goals of breeding program in Croatia are honey yields increase, improvement of honeybee calmness on the combs, decrease of defence behaviour, decrease of swarming tendency, and improvement of tolerance to diseases. The selection and breeding work is conducting at the queen breeder's apiaries. Queen breeders have become familiar with data collection, except for disease tolerance.
