Sažetak
Contemporary Croatian architecture has instigated in the last couple of years considerable international interest and has gained extensive recognition and acclaim. This convincing wave of international recognition is intriguing, if not in certain ways indicative: What might have enticed such heightened attention and interest? In what sense might contemporary Croatian scene be appealing or relevant to an international audience? Even if the attractiveness of the new architecture’s forms and the resulting visual effects might try to account for the broad international attention, there must be something more to it, as the newest Croatian architectural scene has provoked similarly intense analytical interest and incited some superb cases of rigorous scholarly research. This would indicate that behind the appealing forms there is intuited to lie some deeper inner logic, something that connects these forms together making them function as a coherent network rather than random agglomeration of exciting isolated examples. It is precisely this inner logic, along with its workings, that this text addresses: it discusses the new Croatian architectural scene as a specific phenomenon that possesses some internal coherence and reason, and sketches its mechanisms, logic and tendencies. The text introduces and discusses the most prominent examples, which productively oscillate between experimental practices and social concerns.
