Sažetak
The scientific investigations in cultural heritage have attracted great interest in recent years. Our study of postage stamps and banknotes from Rijeka region was stimulated by needs and wishes from croatian stamp collectors and numismatics. In the short period of time after the First World War at the Rijeka region there were used Hungarian postage stamps with overprint FIUME (Rijeka). Soon after the stamps with regular overprint have been released, many stamps with fake overprint also appeared. Expertise is basically done by comparison with the original overprints. Before the boundary with Italy , after the Second World War, at the territory of Zona B, finances were held by Economy bank for Rijeka, Istria and Slovenian Littoral. Banknotes in denominations from one to thousand Lira were printed in Zagreb and Ljubljana. Before printing original banknotes they made trial prints, from which those of one Lira are known. These postage stamps and banknotes were analysed with combined efforts of two powerful spectroscopic techniques: X-ray fluorescence and micro-Raman spectroscopy. The use of these two complementary, non-destructive methods provided results for the better understanding about the differences between the original and fake overprints and possible relation between the banknotes from the circulation and trial prints.
