Sažetak
The chapter is devoted to introducing the reader to the social structure of the Croatian peasantry at the end of the 19th and in the first half of the 20th c. Rural social networks were based largely on kinship, marriage, age, gender and neighbourhood. However they went beyond local boundaries: women and men went to trade at local markets and in search for jobs. The final section turns beyond local community to discuss the relations in which the peasants engaged with neighbouring socially, culturally and ethnically different groups.
