Sažetak
Process of laser ablation has wide variety of applications in both industrial and fundamental investigations. It can be used for treatment of surface morphology and changing its properties, for target elemental analysis by means of optical spectroscopy, for thin film deposition or for production of nanoparticles. Laser ablation depends on number of parameters such as laser wavelength, energy, pulse duration and repetition rate, buffer gas composition and pressure, target composition and state of matter, etc. We studied crater formation, optical emission and absorption properties as well as plasma plume dynamics of titanium in vacuum. Laser ablation can be improved by applying dual-pulse regime where second laser pulse was delayed after the first one. It results in increasing of ablation rate (crater drilling dynamics). Ablation plume is also enlarged and its duration is prolonged. Sensitivity of emission and absorption signal and production of ablated titanium neutrals increased. The dual-pulse laser ablation enhancement mechanisms are related to decreased ablation threshold by the first laser pulse as is seen by the second one. Dual-pulse laser ablation enhancement depends on delay time between laser pulses. Another feature of dual-pulse laser ablation is that particles ablated by the dual-pulse have significantly increased velocities in comparison to single pulse ablation. Absorption measurements (Doppler splitted absorption lineshapes) provide velocity components parallel to the target surface. Dual-pulse laser ablation GaAs and Ge was studied for thin film deposition purposes under various gasses and pressures. Nanostructured features were observed on the substrate. Difference between ablation of titanium in vacuum and water was also under consideration. While dual-pulse ablation rate in vacuum was increased by thermal effects, for ablation in water thermal effects are suppressed.
