Sažetak
During last decades few new noninvasive radiological imaging techniques were developed which enable detailed insight into cardiac morphology and function. Multislice computed tomography (MSCT) is important diagnostic tool for evaluation of coronary artery disease (CAD). Agatston coronary calcification score is used in cardiovascular risk assessment and prediction of success rate after angioplasty. Coronary MSCT angiography (MSCTA) is method of choice to rule out CAD in patients with chest pain and intermediate pre-test probability of CAD. On the contrary, coronary MSCTA shouldn't be performed in patients with high pre-test probability of CAD, extremely calcified plaques, irregular heart rhythm and in very obese people due to unsatisfactory depiction. MSCTA has particular importance in evaluation of coronary artery anomalies, bypass graft patency, and cardiac and mediastinal tumor staging. For best visualization of coronary arteries, slow and regular cardiac rhythm is needed with optimal heart rate about 65 beats/min. For this purpose beta blockers should be used in patients without contraindications. The main advantage of cardiac magnetic resonance (MR) is the use of nonionizing radiation, especially in long-term follow-up of patients with congenital heart disease. Since cardiac MR exam is longlasting and includes many different techniques and imaging planes, it is necessary to define clinical diagnosis in order to get correct MR data and diagnosis. MR enables precise evaluation of myocardial disorders: myocarditis, cardiomyopathies, myocardial infarction and arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia. Cardiac MR helps in staging and pathohistological characterization of cardiac tumors. MR assessment of ventricular function and valvular disease is more reproducible than echocardiographic assessment. Contraindication for MR exam is implanted cardiac pacemaker/defibrillator, while in patients with mechanical heart valves, coronary stents and other implants it is necessary to have manufacturer's safety information about the MR compatibility of the implanted device.
