Sažetak
This paper offers the insight into the recent theories of metaphor as a cognitive language phenomenon. From this perspective it presents the results of a wide research of conceptual metaphor in political discourse in Croatia and the contrastive analysis of English and Croatian conceptual systems in general. The assumption is that only a wide corpus analysis in as many languages as possible can offer enough evidence about culturally conditioned relative concepts and conceptual universals. It is suggested that such an approach can be used in semiotic analysis of various verbal and non verbal cultural manifestations.
