Sažetak
This study is part of comprehensive investigation of the meiofauna recovery at three northern Adriatic offshore sites following short-term and extensive anoxic event that occurred in the late 80-ies. Free-living nematodes, that comprised 88-99% of total meiofauna composition, were recognized as the main promoters of the recovery process. The results obtained during the biennial post anoxic monitoring pointed out two successive phases of recovery, represented by distinctive nematode assemblages that differ in species composition, density and relative abundances of characteristic species. The recovery was influenced by site-specific composition of nematode fauna, despite the occurrence of same temporal pattern at all sites monitored. Recovery of nematode fauna was attributed to replacement of unstable nematode assemblages dominated by r-selected and tolerant species with more stable assemblages dominated by K-selected species, rather then changes in nematode diversity. However, most of results obtained during post anoxic monitoring was never reported. This study deals with recovery of nematode assemblages during biennial post anoxic period, and present the results of subsequent long-term monitoring performed at the same sites until nowadays, i.e. five, ten, fifteen and twenty years after the catastrophic anoxic event.
