Sažetak
Due to its specific composition and constant disposal by the industrial and agricultural branch, organic waste presents a potential danger for environment and human health. Because of that fact, there is a need recognized to find solutions for organic waste management. Production of biogas is an attractive solution from the viewpoint of nature and environment protection and is also a way to increase its material value as fuel and as organic mineral fertilizer of high quality. On investigated poultry farm, there are 72 200 KW of electric energy spent yearly. The building of biogas plant can facilitate processing of manure into energy and in that way assure production of farm’s own energy, which will lead to lowering of production costs. Fertilizer produced through anaerobic fermentation of poultry manure is rich in organic nitrogen, which is ionized and turned into NH4+, and further applied to fertilize plants. Economic justification of new management possibilities on poultry farms is found in utilization of poultry manure for electric and heating energy production. Besides financial benefits, as elaborated in the example of a yearly income of 14, 573.00 €, Croatia as an EU candidate country has obligation to increase exploitation of renewable energy resources.
