Sažetak
Polonium-210 (210Po) naturally occurs in the marine environment at low concentrations, but may become a health concern because of its high degree of bioaccumulation. Baseline data on 210Po concentrations in Mediterranean coastal areas are, however, sparse. That is the reason why, in the framework of the newly launched Phase II of the CIESM Mediterranean Mussel Watch Programme CIESM joined forces with ENEA and IAEA and organize an international training workshop "Polonium-210 (Lead-210) Survey in the Adriatic Sea - 2008" This initiative has allowed drawing the very first distribution map of 210Po levels in mussels at the scale of the Adriatic sub-region.
