Sažetak
E. A. Poe is one of the most widely read American authors, who is popular to these days. This thesis analyzes some common features of narrative elements in his work. The focus is on love poetry, symbolism, hallucinations and grotesque. Regarding his fiction, Poe is presented as the founder of horror and detective stories, as an author of grotesque and sarcastic tales, tales about split personalities and tales told from a female perspective. In his way of writing, motifs, grotesque harmony and the characteristic detachment, Poe is close to the contemporary notion of literature, which makes him one of our contemporaries.
