There was a significantly lower risk for both lifetime and 12-months wheezing and allergic rhinitis symptoms in the rural population of children (ORs ranging from 0.13 to 0.48 ; P<0.001 for all) but not for atopic dermatitis symptoms. This decreased risk was not significantly associated with farming environment. Conclusions: The results of this study show that Eastern Croatia in an area with moderate prevalence of atopic diseases among the pediatric population. The decreased risk for allergic symptoms in rural population needs futher investigation.
