Sažetak
The most commonly reported acid-base disturbance in dogs with babesiosis and severe anaemia is metabolic acidosis. The aim of this study was to compare some acid-base parameters between dogs with babesiosis and healthy dogs. PCR method confirmed the presence of Babesia canis canis in 15 dogs. The control group consisted of 35 healthy dogs. The analytes were deermined on Stat Profile Critial Care Xpress multiprofile analyzer. Statistical analysis of the data were carried out by Mann-Whitney U test at p <0, 05 significance level. Mean blood values for babesiosis group were: pH 7, 466+0, 073, pCO2 24, 42+3, 67 mmHg, pO2 90, 68+24, 31 mmHg, PCV 24, 42+8, 60 L/L, Hb 10, 19+3, 38 g/L, A 117, 35+4, 47 mmHg, a/A 0, 746+0, 22, A-aDO2 28, 3+23, 09 mmHg, HCO3- 17, 66+2, 58 mmol/L, BE-ecf -6, 28+3, 43 mmol/L, BE-b -4, 25+3, 35 mmol/L, RI 0, 55+0, 74, SBC 20, 6+2, 75 mmol/L, TCO2 18, 36+2, 56 mmol/L, pO2/FIO2 424, 2+122, 7 mmHg, SO2 92, 66+11, 86%, lactate 2, 15+1, 39 mmol/L. Patients with babesiosis had significantly different values for pH, pCO2, PCV, A, and RI than referent patients. Respiratory alkalosis occurs frequently in babesiosis, indicated that arterial bloood pH could be a insufficient indicator of acid-base disturbances in babesiosis in dogs.
