Sažetak
Despite the evident success of conventional 1D barcodes, their role in automatic product identification, logistics, supply and retail, these 1D technologies can capture only a limited amount of data and are susceptible to damage and obscuration. [1] On the other hand 2D codes, that started to appear already in 1980s, are becoming more and more popular because of their ability to encode large amount of data in small area. They can also be read even they are partially damaged or erased. And because of their several benefits in comparison to linear barcodes and increasingly frequent use we analyzed two of 2D codes (Datamatrix code [2] and QR code [3]). Codes were created and printed in four process inks (cyan, magenta, yellow and black) each of them in following raster tone values: 15, 20, 25, 30, 50 and 100%. Samples were printed using three different digital printing technologies (inkjet, laser and magnetography). After printing samples were illuminated in accordance to ISO 12040 [4] standard, exposed to accelerated ageing (at 80 °C and 65% relative humidity) for 6 days in accordance to ISO 5630-3:1997 [5] standard and immersed into water (ISO 11798:1999 [6]) to determine their water resistance. All printed samples before and after illumination and accelerated ageing were read with laser and CCD based reader and the lowest contrast (raster tone value) of code for each printing technique and each printing ink was determined. The purpose of the research was to determine the lowest contrast for each printing ink color and each printing technique, which enable the 2D code reading with both mentioned readers.
