Sažetak
BACKGROUND AND AIMES: Study examines association between childrens' television viewing and computer use and eating and drinking habits. METHOD: Children in 5th grade from 5 elementary schools completed a questionnaire regarding time they watch television and use computer on typical school day and on typical weekend day. Children answered how often they eat and drink while watching TV and using computer. BMI was calculated from measured height and weight at last medical exemination. RESULTS: Of 250 participants (116 boys and 134 girls), there are 20, 8% overweight students and 9, 2% obese students, also there are 42% normal weight and 28% underweight students. From all students, 50, 8% are using computer two or more hours per school day and 59, 2% are using computer two or more hours on weekend day. While using a computer 50% of all students are eating, at least sometimes. Most of them are eating fruits, snacks or sandwiches. From all students, 82, 8% are watching TV two or more hours per school day and 66% are watching TV two or more hours on weekend day. While watching TV most of the students, 89, 2%, are eating at least sometimes. Most of them are eating sandwiches, snacks and fruits. Most of the children are phisicaly active two or more hours a week (58, 8%). CONCLUSION: This study showed that children in 5th grade are spending too much time using computer and/or watching TV, most of them then eat something. Most of the children are phisical active during a week and have normal weight.
