Sažetak
Time series of bacterioplankton, phytoplankton and zooplankton abundances and of primary production in the coastal and open Adriatic Sea were analyzed. Multivariate methods were used to extract the main patterns of year-to-year changes in abundances. In the open sea, the natural factors were dominant in controlling year-to-year fluctuation of plankton, whereas, long-term fluctuations of plankton in the coastal area were chiefly controlled by man-induced factors.
