Sažetak
In spite of several published research projects, tank culture of yellow perch fry has not yet been demonstrated on a commercial scale. Successfully growing the newly hatched fry to fingerlings in intensive aquaculture is the major constraint to successful yellow perch aquaculture. This paper describes early larval growth and survival of yellow perch under three different feeding regimes: (1) rotifers for the first five days of feeding, and then newly hatched artemia nauplii, (2) newly hatched small (AF strain, INVE) artemia nauplii from the first day of feeding, and (3) feeding with rotifers for the first 15 days, followed by transition to artemia nauplii. Initial feeding with rotifers started 24 hours after the opening of the mouth, and with artemia nauplii 36 hours after the opening of the mouth. Larvae were kept in dark until initial feeding, at which point light was applied at 300 lux on the water surface. In the first month larvae grew to approximately 9 mm. The ANOVA (P<0, 001) test shows no significant difference in growth of the three different groups of larvae in the first month. Larvae fed on artemia nauplii grew slightly faster than the two other groups. This experiment shows the importance of introducing artemia nauplii in the feed of yellow perch larvae, and the potential for raising larvae on artemia nauplii as an initial live feed.
