Sažetak
This study was designed to create electromagnetic field of frequency 915 MHz which is used in GSM (Global System of Mobile) mobile phones. Uniformity and biological effectiveness of created GSM modulated EM field has been tested in gigahertz transversal electromagnetic mode cell (GTEM-cell) using V79 cell culture. GTEM-cell equipped by tracking generator Antrisu 27211B and Micro Devices amplifier RF 3146 with modulator RF 2722 was used to create mobile phone frequency field. Consistency and strength of electric field was measured by field meter Antrisu 27211A equipped with field probe. Biological potency of generated electric field was tested by cell samples exposure to the GSM modulated waves of 915 MHz frequency for 1, 2 and 3 hours. Cell culture was maintained in a humified atmosphere at 37°C in 5% CO2. Cell viability was provided by Trypan blue exclusion test. Colony-forming ability (CFA) was determined by colony counts 7 days after exposure. The electric field strength inside GTEM-cell was averaged at 10, 20 and 30V/m. It was shown that viability and colony-forming ability of irradiated cells did not significantly differ from sham-exposed samples. Measurement of field strength has shown that field strength distribution inside GTEM-cell was uniform with acceptable variation. It could be concluded that uniform GSM modulated mobile phone frequency field of 915 MHz in applied in vitro experimental conditions did not reveal harmful biological outcome
