Sažetak
Periphytic ciliate fauna on the artificial substrate (glass slides) was investigated in the Sakadaš Lake in July and August 2007. In July 2007 representatives of the five ciliate genus have been recorded: Vorticella, Stentor, Epistylis, Holophrya and Zoothamnium and nine ciliate genus have been recorded in August 2007 samples: Vorticella, Stentor, Epistylis, Holophrya, Chilodonella, Euplotes, Paramecium, Cinetochilum and Glaucoma. During the whole period of exposure, sessile peritrichs (ordo Peritrichida) dominated in periphyton assemblages: colonial forms (Epistylis) and solitary forms (Vorticella). In August 2007 both periphyton biomass and average ciliate abundance increased. Since periphytic bacteria are the main food source for ciliates, increased periphytic biomass can result with the increasing abundance of ciliates. Ciliate associations are useful as bioindicators of the water quality and have an important role in evaluation of the trophic state of water. According to recorded ciliate associations it is possible to assess the degree of water saturation with organic matter as well as organic matter degradation level (saprobity). The dominant and other ciliate genus recorded during this research on the artificial substrate in Sakadaš Lake are characteristic for waters saturated with organic matter.
