Sažetak
The aim of this work was to investigate corrosion and protection of carbon steel in simulated marine environment. Carbon steel is widely used in civil engineering as a construction material. Marine atmosphere is one of the most aggressive environments and causes deterioration known as rebar corrosion in structures such as bridges. Steel corrosion was studied in simulated marine environment in near neutral 3.5% sodium chloride media. Measurements were performed by the means of electrochemical methods (AC and DC techniques). Possibility of steel protection was examined by the use of three different corrosion inhibitors. These compounds are environment friendly, based on sugar beets derivatives. Wide spectrum of inhibitor concentrations was studied. All experimental methods used confirmed high inhibiting efficiency of these inhibitors which may reach up to 94%. These results confirmed that studied plant extracts can be use as efficient inhibitors for carbon steel protection from aggressive effect of chloride media.
