Sažetak
Climate change and global warming induced by human activities, caused by increasing concentrations of greenhouse gasses (GHG), have been the biggest challenge that our civilization is facing currently. To reduce anthropogenic GHG emissions and tackle climate change on a global level, policymakers require a better understanding of the climate system and its likely future evolution. Oceans play a significant role in redistributing heat and absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere, with the North Atlantic having a disproportionately large role in carbon uptake relative to its size. Due to a lack of the data and the costs of measurements, many aspects of carbon transport in the Atlantic are not yet known especially on shorter time scales. In this thesis the daily estimates of transports from new array of instruments across 24.5°N in the North Atlantic are combined with available ocean carbon measurements to better understand the seasonal and inter-annual variability of carbon fluxes in North Atlantic.
