Sažetak
Postgraduate professional study in school medicine has a long tradition. The first has been organized in 1951 at Andrija Stampar School of Public Health and it was obligatory part of residency in school medicine introduced the same year. Postgraduate professional study in school medicine has been so far obligatory part of three(in future four) year residency program in school medicine. Postgraduate professional study in school medicine is meant to be a one year study (in future four mounts) with 400 hours of active teaching, ten mandatory and ten elective courses, 60 ECTS credits and graduated thesis. The aim of the study is accomplishment of knowledge and skills in professional work and research in the field of the school medicine and health care of school children and youth, especially training in assessment and measurement of health care of this population, recognizing and estimating risks affecting youth health, planning and evaluating health care measures and solving the leading public health problems of school children and youth. Postgraduate professional study on School medicine could attend candidates which graduate at Medical school with license to practice medicine or school medicine residents. The need for this kind of education is generally accepted as a condition for the work with school children and the youth in school health services in institutes of public health, and they are conducting through preventive, specific and health educational measurements for the primary and secondary school children and university students.
