Sažetak
Bacteriorhodopsin is the only protein in the purple membrane of the bacterium Halobacterium halobium. Under conditions of oxygen starvation, the molecule can use light to pump protons across the membrane (via trans-cis izomerization of retinal)and thereby generates electrochemical gradient thet can be used, i.e. for ATP synthesis.Hill's diagram method was used to for the calculations of the steady state kinetic properties of the bacteriorodopsin proton pump.
