Sažetak
Republic of Croatia has favourable condition for development of animal production. The analysis of the current positions takes in account period from 1990 to 1998, especially from the aspect of meat and milk production. Data show that because of the war in 1991/1992 number of cattle was lowered for 46.6%, pigs for 25.9% and poultry for 41.8% in analysed period. In process of restauration of animal production not only the number of animals should be increased, but technology of production and the choice of appropriate genotypes of animals and efficiency of production systems. In this review activities which influence enhancement and quicker development of animal production such as orientation on family farming, breeding techniques and goverment support to the production programmes are emphasized. With transition from plan to market economy, the grading of animal products became very important task. Croatian government is preparing new legislation which includes indicators of quality in the payment system. This should influence the faster progress in the production of some kinds of meat and milk as well as in increasing in product quality.
