Private equity means investments on a private capital market that are linked with managing the company, leading towards generating mid and long term profits. This terms are often used in literature as substitutes. Venture capital becomes more and more popular way of attracting capital not only in the United States where it has started but also in Europe. It is due to its numerous advantages. The author analyses the private equity and venture capital investment and divestment types in Central and Eastern Europe and compares them to the rest of Europe. The paper shows that both investments and divestments forms are different in Central and Eastern Europe than in Europe. It is due to various stages of development of their economies. In order to make conclusions more general, the examined period covers three years, that is 2004, 2005 and 2006.
