Sažetak
COPD is an obstructive airway disorder. More than 90% of patients with COPD are smokers, but not all smokers develop COPD. The aim of the study was to assess ob in the serum of the group elderly male with stable COPD exist change in the activity of GSTs and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and concentration of alpha 1-antitrypsin (AAT) compared with healthy male controls. The study included 90 male subjects. There were 60 healthy subjects (63± ; 5 years ; 19 non-smokers, 16 ex-smokers and 25 current life-long smokers) and 30 COPD patients (65± ; 7 years ; 12 ex-smokers, 14 current life-long smokers and 4 had never smoked). GSTs was determined spectrophotometrically, AAT by RID technique and LDH by the Olympus AU 400 analyzer. GSTs activity in serum of all groups COPD patient showed lower values (median: 67 U/L (21 – 104 U/L) compared with healthy controls (median: 68.5 U/L (38 – 111 U/L) but differences are not statistically significant. The total AAT concentrations in COPD patients where significantly higher when compared with control group (p<0.05). The value of total LDH activity in COPD patients was statistically higher when compared with controls total (p<0.05). The determination of the total GSTs activities in serum does not have sufficient power of differentiating patients with stable COPD and healthy persons, but this study support the concept of inflammation and tissue hypoxia in elderly male COPD patients.
