Sažetak
Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common chronic diseases that lead to a chronic hyperglycemia. If not treated, this condition results in a number of complications in the different organ systems such as kidneys, blood vessels, eyes, heart, and peripheral nerves. HbA1c is formed by the non-enzymatic reaction between glucose and hemoglobin. Concentration of formed HbA1c is proportional to the average concentration of blood glucose within last four months. Nowadays it has become the standard for both the metabolic control and the therapeutic efficacy assessment. The observed methods are rapid, specific, easy to perform, and highly sensitive. There is a good correlation between these two methods. The good correlation is probably a result of: tests do not require hemolizate preparation and there is a same approach to the method calibration. Also, both tests use same type of samples (K3EDTA samples).
