Sažetak
In Split, Dubrovnik and Mostar, 310, 246 and 106 vascular taxa were noted, respectively (Table 1). Similarity coefficients (Jaccard index) between the flora found in Split and Dubrovnik, Split and Mostar, and Dubrovnik and Mostar were, respectively, 41.8, 17.9, and 19.0%. Asteraceae and Poaceae were the families characterised by the highest number of taxa at all three cities. Analysis of floral elements indicated that the Mediterranean floral element dominated (26-34%) in Split and Dubrovnik, while widespread taxa prevailed (22.8%) in Mostar. Therophytes prevailed (36-49%) in Split and Dubrovnik, and hemicriptophytes (44.8%) in Mostar. Most of the adventive taxa were neophytes, that is introduced after 1500 AD. There were differences in the percentage contribution of neophytes among cities. The highest percentage (18.7%) of neophytes was recorded in urban flora of Split. Of these neophytes, American taxa dominated (Split - 70.7%, Dubrovnik - 94%, Mostar - 50%) in all three cities. In contrast, archaeophytes were much less common and were mainly of Asiatic origin. The number of neophytes varied in different parts of the cities according to the degree of urbanization and habitat types (Jasprica et al. 2007). We consider Split and Dubrovnik a typical Mediterranean cities and its urban flora are comparable with those of other Mediterranean cities in central and southern Italy (cf. Celesti-Grapow et al. 1996). On the contrary, differences in urban flora between Mediterranean cities and Mostar can be explained by the biogeographic position and bioclimate. In addition, analysis of history, types and intensity of human impacts are also needed in order to explain these differences.
