Sažetak
Flavonoid components of propolis are biologically active substances, with antioxidative, immunostimulative, immunomodulative and anti-inflamatory characteristics. The key intention of conducted studies was to prove their cytotoxic effect on different leukemia cell cultures. During research 5 different flavonoids have been used (quercetin, caffeic acid, chrysin, naringenin and naringin) and 5 types of leukemia cell cultures (MOLT, JURKAT, HL-60, RAJI and U937). Cells were cultured in RPMI-1640 medium, with the addition of 10% FCS, on temperature of 37º ; , in atmosphere with 5% of CO2. The above mentioned flavonoids were added in following concentrations (100, 50, 25, and/or 12.5 µ ; g mL-1). Result of flavonoids analysis showed different dose- and cell type -dependent cytotoxicity. Almost of flavonoids, quercetin induced strong cytotoxic effect in all tested cells. In addition caffeic acid and/or chrisyn also expressed high level of cytotoxicty. Treatment of U937 and HL-60 cell lines with low concentration of chrisyn and/or naringenin induced stimmulative effect on a cell proliferation ; the result suggested biphase effect of test component on monocyte cell lines. Cytotoxicity and growth stimulation mechanisms caused directly by flavonoids should be further investigated on molecular level.
