Sažetak
Protection of clean aquifers requires a radical minimization of water consumption, total amount of wastewater and furthermore, minimization of wastewater loading. Wastewater management includes interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approach and adjustment with increasingly more rigorous EU legislative. Organic pollutants in wastewater present a specific problem due to their toxicity, bioaccumulation and poor biodegradability. In the present study, Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs), UV and UV/S2O8, have been applied to decolorize and mineralize organic dye C. I. Reactive Red 45 (RR 45) in water solution. The photooxidative decolorization and mineralization of RR45 was investigated using UV radiation in the presence of peroxydisulfat (S2O8) in a batch photoreactor. Primary objective was to determine the optimal process conditions. Influence of pH as well as peroxydisulfat dosage on process efficiency was investigated. The influence of initial dye concentration and added synthetic zeolites on the degradation kinetic rate and final process efficiency was also investigated. The rate of color removal was studied by measuring the absorbance at the characteristic wavelength while mineralization rates were obtained on the basis of total organic carbon (TOC), adsorbable organic halides (AOX) measurements. S2O8 and UV-light showed negligible effect when they were used independently. Obtained results show that maximal partial mineralization extents depended on the reaction conditions for each of the applied processes.
