Sažetak
In prosthodontic therapy, zirconia is nowadays very often-used material for crowns and bridges. Mechanical properties of zirconia crowns are in range with metal-ceramic crowns. Nevertheless, in clinical experience zirconia crowns have more failures than metal-ceramic ones. The most problems are associated with cracks between zirconia and layered ceramic. The studies in literature are often based on in vitro investigations and the samples made by manufacturer. The aim of this study was to investigate the surface of zirconia samples made by dental technician and to find possible contaminations. The samples were made of 5%Y-TZP (Cercon Ceramic). They were in disc shape (10x1mm) produced by CAD/CAM and sintered as declared by manufacturer (Cercon, Degudent). The SEM and EDS analyses of the samples were performed. The results showed differences between declared chemical composition and the composition found on the surface of the samples. One sample showed high value of aluminum on its surface. This study showed that the production of zirconia crowns in dental laboratory could cause a contamination of its surface. High values of aluminum found on surface were probably caused by diffusion or bonding of aluminum oxide from base during sintering phase. The differences between declared composition and composition found in this investigation could affect the bonding of zirconia and layered ceramic. Therefore, this study shows that there is a need for further investigation of zirconia as a dental material.
