Sažetak
Strain L. helveticus M92 (previously identified as former L. acidophilus M92) was examined for its ability to assimilate the diversity of prebiotic substrates (inulin, lactulose and raffinose), in vitro and in vivo on Swiss albino mice animal model. Survival, competition, adhesion and colonization of L. helveticus M92 together with prebiotic assimilation (synbiotic effect) were monitored in the gastrointestinal tract of mice, as well as their immunomodulating capability. Mice were fed with synbiotics i.e. 2 x 1010 probiotic cells supplemented with 10% of prebiotic substrates. Afterwards, the increased number of lactic acid bacteria against reduced number of enterobacteria and sulphite-reducing clostridia in mouse faeces was observed. These results were in correlation with obtained results in homogenates of small and large intestine of mice on 1st and 14th day after feeding with synbiotics. Moreover, after oral immunization of mice with viable L. helveticus M92 cells, with a daily dose of 2 x 1010 cells, alone and in combination with prebiotic substrates, the concentration of faecal SIgA and total serum IgA antibodies from all immunized mice were significantly higher compared to control. The specific humoral immune response was not evoked after oral application, what indicates on their possibility for synbiotic application. L. helveticus M92 in combination with inulin has shown the best synbiotic effect on intestinal and faecal microflora of Swiss albino mice, and their immune system
