Sažetak
Analysis of the binder composition applied on different historical object is an important analytical task. Based on the result of the investigation, different cleaning, conservation and restauration steps may be applied without a danger of further destroying of the treated materials. Very often the binders are mixtures of natural materials such as waxes, resins, proteins and sugars. In this work thin layer chromatography was applied on the silica gel 60 F254 plates in order to identify the unknown waxes binding media on several different historical samples. The developer applied for this purpose was petroleum ether: diethyl ether: acetic acid in 90 – 10 – 1 volume ratio mixture and the visualization was performed under UV light of 254 nm. The waxes identified were carnauba, candelilla and lanolin.
