Sažetak
In big and fast growing metropolitan areas an ever increasing number of citizens use suburban railway services for commuting purposes. By collecting and analyzing data on the number of carried passengers it was determined that the increase in the quality of transport services in suburban rail traffic causes an increase in its demand and that this can lead to overburdening of the system which may in turn cause a reduction in its quality. The assumption is that this problem can be avoided by timely upgrading of the control system by the implementation of centralized rail traffic control. The adaptation of advanced technical solutions with the purpose of increasing the dispatcher operation efficiency in central rail traffic control can improve the process of real-time traffic optimization. In this way it is possible, even in case of a major increase in the number of customers, not only to maintain the existing but also to raise the quality level of the transport services in suburban rail traffic
