Sažetak
We study a homogeneous Dirichlet boundary value problem for div div (M grad grad u)=f.
This equation is known (the Kirchhoff model of pure bending) to describe an elas\-tic symmetric plate clamped at the boundary.
The goal is to find the optimal shape, such that the compliance functional is minimised. Among the admissible plates with prescribed volume and bounded thickness, the problem has no solution. Therefore
the relaxation procedure is performed, introducing the Young measure as a
generalised thickness. In the spirit of Tartar, we develop a new homogenisation method for this problem, obtaining the optimal relaxation result for general materials.
