Sažetak
The aim of this study was to determine wether this hypothesis is correct. This is retrospective study of pathients beginning hemodyalisis in the Center for Dialisis in the General Hospital in Slavonski Brod from 1992-2005. We then compared those result with the percentage of patients on hemodialysis in 1980.In last 14 years, 141 new patients began a program of chronic hemodyalysis, 53 of whom had a diagnosis EN (37%). The highest number of new pathients with EN occurred in the years 2002 (11 of a total of 21 patients starting dialysis) and 2005 (7 of total of 20). The lowest number of new patients starting hemodyalisis with EN occured in the years 1992 (0 patients), 1994 (1 of total of 4), and 2000 (1 with EN of a total of 4). In 1980, 39% of patients on dialisys had end-stage renal disease due to EN. EN still exists in the Croatian region with a prevalence similar to the in earlier years. This retrospective study provides strong proof that many new patients strart hemodialysis because of end-stage renal disease caused by EN. We have also shown that the number of patients start hemodialysis because of end-stage renal disease caused by EN. We have also shown that the number of patients with edn-stage renal disease due to EN and the percentage of patients begining hemodialysis becuse of EN remains above 30% of the total number of patients begining dialysis for all reasons. Importantly, in the last 3 years, there has been an incrisease in the number of new patients begining dialysis because of EN.
