Sažetak
Information on the knowledge of applicants in a certain field is an indirect manifestation of motivation for certain occupation. Knowledge tests including information related to aviation are used in a majority of selection programmes with applicants for aviation services (especially pilots and air traffic controllers). Such tests are used in the selection of candidates for promotion in duties and working place and moreover as an indirect motivation measure for applicants at entering upon service. These tests improve selection procedure, lower the number of those unsuccessful in training and diminish costs. This study represents an attempt to apply the Aviation knowledge Test MM-97 Form B developed by Mlačić B. and Mlačić M. (1997), and define its measuring characteristics. The test consists of 77 questions organized in three sub-tests: History of aviation and parachute jumping and knowledge of modern aviation; Aviation medicine and basic flying physiology; Basic psychology of flying, sleeping, stress and social skills, designed for the selection of applicants for civil pilots and candidates for promotion in service. Preliminary research was conducted with 52 examinees - the first and the fourth year students of the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering in Zagreb, who study air traffic. The reliability of the sub-tests expressed by the Chronbach's coefficient ranges from 0.55 to 0.64. The reliability of the whole test, measured by the Split Half Method is 0.88. The test is adequate for the examined group (0.49). The analysis of variance shows no differences in relation to sex or age. There is the difference between the tested students among the results of the History of Aviation sub-test (p<.01), while none was established with other sub-tests and global test results.
