Sažetak
We analyzed advantages and disadvantages of integrated and preventive health care model for school children and youth by comparing both models that existed in Croatia. Five experts, school medicine specialists with at least 5 year experience in school health services analyzed each model’ s advantages and disadvantages. Integrated model advantages: better insight of child’ s health, easier health care measures implementation, frequent students contact, better parent’ s, student’ s , children’ s and physician’ s acceptation. Disadvantages: hard achievable for secondary school students – schooling and living place differ, separate head fees for preventive and curative care. Preventive model advantages: better specific and preventive health care measures planning and implementation, more time for specific and preventive health care measures, safer preventive health care measures implementation, recognized as a specific and preventive profession. Disadvantages: two or more physicians in charge for one child, unclear school medicine specialist and family doctor (predominantly curative oriented) work areas for parents, teachers and children, colleges and other health professionals not recognizing the profession, school medicine specialist as a preventive professionals can lose interest in permanent education and improving. Optimal model which could reduce both models’ disadvantages would link School health services through the school medicine specialist’ s work in group practices.
