Sažetak
The effect of different magnesium and ammonium concentrations in the contents on magnesium absorption from the swine caecum was invesigated in bags made from the surviving swine caecum epithelium. Two series of the experiments were carried out: the first in which the bags were filled with the pure magnesium chloride solution containing 10, 20 and 50 mg of magnesium per 100 mL, and the second in which the bags were filled with the solution containing 10 mg of magnesium per 100 mL as magnesium chloride and to which ammonium chloride was added in the amount of 5 and 25 mg ammonia N per 100 mL. The epithelial side of the mucous membrane was turne inside the bags. Tyrode's solution was placed from the external (submucosal) side of the mucous membrane in which the excess of magnesium was obtained at the end of the experiment. An increase of the magnesium concentration in the contents resulted in its similar rise in the solution from the submucosal side of the epitheluim. The addition of ammonia to the contents reduced the magnesium absorption from the swine caecum regardless of the ammonia concentration used in the contents.
